Dr. Mia’s desire to become a dentist started as a child when she saw first hand how dentistry had the power to change lives through improving both health and self esteem. After witnessing a loved one lose a front tooth, Dr. Mia noticed how the loss of a smile led to the loss of confidence. As a dental patient herself, she experienced that same boost in confidence and health.

Dr. Mark Burney finds nothing more fulfilling than the ability to positively transform someone's life. He has found that altering a smile can ultimately change a person's entire face and personality. This change can either enhance their overall appearance and impact their entire life, making the process both challenging and gratifying.

For the past 19 years, I have wholeheartedly dedicated myself to the field of dentistry, fueled by my unwavering passion for helping individuals regain their confidence through improved oral health and radiant smiles. Being born and raised on the west bank and having graduated from L.W. Huggins, I am proud to call this New Orleans my home.
My journey in the dental profession began with rigorous training at Cuiller Career Center, a foundation that laid the groundwork for my subsequent achievements. Seeking further knowledge and expertise, I pursued and successfully obtained my EDDA qualification at LSUSD, solidifying my commitment to excellence in dentistry.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I find immense joy in immersing myself in various experiences that enrich my life. Whether it's basking in the sun at the beach, indulging my taste buds with culinary delights from diverse restaurants, or creating cherished memories with my loved ones, I embrace every opportunity to savor the beauty of life outside of work.
It’s An Experience,
Not An Appointment
From your very first visit to Smile Snob, you’ll see that we do things a little differently than other dental practices.
When you arrive, our concierge will be waiting at the front desk to greet you and escort you to our lobby – which is less like a waiting room and more like a lounge. While you wait, we’ll offer you our signature mocktail (cheers!) and then give you a tour of the office, including our state-of-the-art dental lab.
You will then be led to our x-ray and photo room where we’ll capture images of your mouth and its underlying structures. Then, you’ll head to our dedicated new patient room, which features a spa chair instead of a normal dental chair so you can sit back and relax in comfort while you get to know Dr. Mark or Dr. Mia.
Your dentist will also get to know you, taking the time to learn more about your smile goals and comfort preferences. They will also share with you the current state of your oral health and discuss potential treatment options, then get you scheduled for your next visit.
We believe in easing you into your dental care, rather than just drilling and filling right away, so you can feel comfortable and confident in your treatment when the time comes.

CBCT/Nomad
We utilize advanced CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) technology and a handheld Nomad x-ray device to capture detailed 3D images of your oral structures. These technologies provide accurate diagnoses, aid in treatment planning, and minimize radiation exposure.
3D Printer
Our state-of-the-art 3D printer allows us to create custom surgical guides to ensure optimal outcomes for dental implant placement and other oral surgeries. We can also craft personalized dental restorations, such as crowns and bridges, in a single visit.
iTero Scanner
The iTero scanner is an advanced digital impression system that creates precise 3D images of your teeth for accurate crowns, bridges, aligners and other restorations. iTero provides a more comfortable experience than traditional dental impressions without the need for messy, uncomfortable impression materials.
Diode Laser
Our Diode Laser enables precise and minimally invasive soft tissue procedures. It offers enhanced comfort, reduced bleeding and swelling, and versatile applications for treatments like gum contouring and periodontal therapy.

Dr. Mark Burney finds nothing more fulfilling than the ability to positively transform someone's life. He has found that altering a smile can ultimately change a person's entire face and personality. This change can either enhance or detract from their overall appearance, making the process both challenging and gratifying.
Dr. Mark’s passion for dentistry developed at a young age, fueled by the desire to be in a position of leadership and build relationships as a healthcare provider specializing in smiles. The smile is often the first feature people notice about each other, and preserving and enhancing that aspect of a person is a privilege.
Dr. Mark Burney earned an undergraduate degree from the esteemed Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, and a dental graduate degree from the distinguished Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, TN. Following dental school, a residency program at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, NE provided valuable experience.
Throughout his journey, Dr. Mark has worked in various settings, including private practice, the federal prison system, and temporary positions covering for other dentists. However, all paths have led to practice ownership.
The most captivating aspect of dentistry for Dr. Mark is the constantly advancing technological in the field. Dentistry is continually evolving at a rapid pace, making it challenging to keep up at times. However, this drive for progress is a positive force, pushing him to grow and improve by seeking faster, smarter, more cost-effective, and superior methods of dental care. Dr. Mark Burney finds great joy in keeping pace with these advancements.
Outside of work, Dr. Mark Burney cherishes spending time with his wife, Dr. Mia, and their children. Starting a family has been a tremendous blessing, and having both sets of parents in the same area adds to the joy of life. Dr. Mark also loves boxing; he and his family never miss a fight nights. Attending certain continuing education events with Dr. Mia is also a cherished part of their time together. He also enjoys socializing with friends and exploring New Orleans.

After witnessing a loved one lose a front tooth, Dr. Mia noticed how the loss of a smile led to the loss of confidence. As a dental patient herself, she experienced that same boost in confidence and health.
After graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans, she attended and graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science Magna Cum Laude. She became Dr. Mia after earning her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, TN, where she also met her husband, Dr. Mark. They moved to Wilmnigton, DE and Dr. Mia completed a general practice residency at WIlmington Hospital.
Dr. Mia has been practicing dentistry since 2016, and since becoming a dentist has taken over 500 hours of continuing education so she can always give her patients the best care possible. In 2020, Dr. Mia earned her fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Dr. Mia’s personal mission in dentistry is to change the lives of her patients by elevating their health and self esteem. She has a special interest in dental technology, Invisalign, cosmetics/smile makeovers, implant dentistry, and Botox.
